Academy of Barmy Composers: Romantic will feature in this year’s recommended book list for the Summer Reading Challenge from The Reading Agency
This year’s theme is ‘Read to the Beat’, a music-themed challenge that inspires children to explore the connection between stories and songs, discovering how reading and music both ignite imaginations and creativity.
The Summer Reading Challenge is delivered annually and encourages over 700,000 children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer holidays, providing lots of fun as well as helping to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’.
The Academy of Barmy Composers series takes a look at the history of opera through the adventures of Jack, Megan and the Academy of Barmy Composers.
The third in the series, Romantic sees Jack and Megan set off on a great quest to save the legendary Romantic composer Wagner from the Ring of Fire. Will Jack and Megan get to Valhalla in time? And will they be able to make it back home? On the way they are helped by many of the era’s famous composers, including Humperdinck, Verdi, Bizet, Tchaikovsky and Puccini.
The Summer Reading Challenge will launch in Scotland on 20 June and in England and Wales on 4 July.
